The Sketchbook Project adventure

Happy New Year! 


With each New Year, we take resolutions, and one of mine this year was to join the  2018 sketchbook project.

Yes, I know, I'm often not really fully aware of what I am getting myself into...



I have to choose a theme among those proposed, and draw inside the sketchbook, then return it before march 31st, 2018.

So I have received that sketchbook and, first feeling :  The paper won't like what I want to do!
But I took several deep breaths and decided to take the paper off, and replace it with my own paper.  (yes, it is allowed)
So I will use the paper I wish, and hopefully it will give the impression I want.
As for the binding, heck, I will learn.

I chose my theme, and began to draw, after making tests on the paper, to see how it behaves.
and here are my first drawings...
It's going to tell a story, sort of.

The title is "Underwater dreams".


 I didn't want to add the text directly on the drawing, because it felt it would be overloaded, so I had the idea of using tracing paper.
I like that idea, somehow :)

 On the second Thursday of the month, I host a "Chatnic" at Carmel Art Community, the lovely art community that Martha and Robert McFarren brought to life in Second Life. (Landmark :  Carmel Art Community in Second life  ) So this first Session of the Chatnic (somehow a chat and a picnic in the park) was held on October 8th, 1 PM SLT to 2 PM SLT (that's 22h-23h CET). A sunny Sunday afternoon

So yesterday I decided to try out my brand new Sailor fude 40° fountain pen, and go sketch, as the weather was nice and sunny... I packed a few things (including watercolors) and hit the road to end up in Dampierre en Yvelines and try to sketch its lovely Mansard castle (there is a hill in front of the castle, that allows to get a nice view). The tourists were swarming the place, but the rather steep hill gave me just muffled sound and a nice feeling of activity without getting all the inconvenience of a crowd, so i had a really nice moment. I began sketching and suddenly heard a buzzing noise, as if a hundred bees were swarming at me: it was a swarm of vespas! They aligned their vespas in front of the castle, got a flag out and took a zillion souvenir photos!
